The Cherokee, especially the Grand Cherokee, are considered the upmarket Jeep, and I suspect many people who buy these have no intention of going off-road and into the rough stuff.
Consequently styling and performance is more ‘highway’ like, especially with vehicles like the BMW X5.
If it came to choosing between the Jeep or BMW for off-road use I would settle for the Jeep every time, if for no other reason than its off-road breeding is in the Jeeps DNA and long term proven experience.
